Play Therapy for Children

Children often communicate best through play—it’s how they share feelings, explore their world, and make sense of life’s challenges. In play therapy, our Child Psychologist provides a safe, caring space where children can use toys, games, and creative activities to express themselves in ways words sometimes can’t. Through this process, children learn healthy ways to cope with big emotions, build confidence, and strengthen relationships at home and school. Whether your child is navigating worries, changes, or difficult experiences, play therapy helps them feel understood, supported, and empowered.

Supporting Children Through Play

Play therapy is an evidence-based intervention facilitated by a Child Psychologist to support children’s emotional, cognitive, and social development. Utilizing play as the medium of communication, this therapeutic approach enables children to process experiences, express feelings, and develop adaptive coping strategies. Play therapy has demonstrated effectiveness in addressing a range of concerns, including anxiety, mood difficulties, trauma, behavioral challenges, and adjustment to life transitions. Guided by established clinical frameworks, the process fosters resilience, self-regulation, and improved functioning in daily life.

Our Approach

At Purple Oak, play therapy is grounded in creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space where every child feels seen, respected, and supported. Guided by our Child Psychologist, children are encouraged to explore and express themselves through play in ways that honour their unique needs and experiences. We are committed to fostering resilience, emotional growth, and healthy coping skills in an environment that celebrates diversity and nurtures belonging.
